Encounter #8

Location: Monterey

ID: CA140Bs, CA23A2, CA113s

We had the CA140Bs, CA113s, and CA23A2 again, but this time socializing! They were breaching, spy hopping, tail throwing, rolling around, and coming up to the boat! What a great day! Video by Colleen The other group present during our encounter on Sunday was the CA113s. Nancy Black first photographed CA113 in 1994, when she was already an adult female, so we are not sure how old she is. Her son CA113A is about 20 years old, making him a full grown adult male. His dorsal fin is close to its maximum height and has a nick near the tip. They are very seldom encountered in Monterey Bay and most likely spend much of their time offshore.
